5 out of 10 leading UK supermarkets have agreed to phase out ‘forever chemicals’ or PFAS from their own brand packaging in a bid to boost sustainability!

Known as forever Chemicals as they take over 1000 years to break down. Per and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) are a diverse group of human-made chemicals. PFAS are used in a wide range of consumer and industrial products. Reducing these chemicals in packing will have improved health benefits as they’ve been linked to cancers and neurological problems in animals. Further to this, reducing the production and use of them will have a greater and positive impact on the environment.

Supermarkets use PFAS in their food packaging to repell water and grease!

Once PFAS enter the environment there is not way to recycle or get rid of them. This is why it is so important to stop them at the source and look for alternatives!

At TAMs we use coatings and films such as acetate. This is a safer, natural and environmentally friendly solution for our cardboard food packaging and sleeves. Learn more
